Local weddings are most popular in the summer and often the whole village will turn out to celebrate the happy event. It is usual to give money rather than a present at a wedding and this is either pinned to the bride's gown or placed in a small envelope and given to the best man (koumbaro). It is also quite usual for the father to give his daughter a house as a wedding present. Ressi, a rich pilaf of lamb and wheat is prepared and special little shortbreads (Loukoumia) are piled high for the guests.
